Choice in assessment an incredibly valuable tool for student learning and engagement!  Students in my Grade 10 history course had a 3 part assignment for their culminating activity.  Students had to choose a particular group of people and trace their progress through Canadian history from 1914 to present-day.  This assignment included a research component, a report, and a RAFT.  Within the RAFT portion, students were able to choose a way to show their understanding of the evolution of their chosen group becoming a part of the Canadian identity.  Some students did a TED talk or gave a speech. Interestingly, the two students whose work I am showing here both chose First Nations impact on Canadian identity.  Both of these students were able to show their understanding through colour, size, and symbolism.  A wonderful example of student success when given choice!
