Amping Up Your Classroom with AR & VR

This workshop was presented at Delia School of Canada Professional Development in March 2018.  It outlined the differences between Augmented and Virtual Reality and the benefits to student engagement. This workshop featured 360 videos, Blippar, QR codes, SIM City, and Google Expeditions.  Teachers were able to see how all these tools worked. Furthermore, teachers engaged in a Google Expedition with Virtual Reality headsets from both the teacher's point of view and the student's. The workshop ended with a discussion of how Augmented and Virtual Reality could be utilized in specific subject areas.

100% Student Engagement with FlipGrid

This presentation was delivered at the Hong Kong TeachMeet in November 2017 and an extended workshop was given at the Delia School of Canada PD workshops in March 2018.  This video software is particularly engaging for ELLs and provides a wonderful opportunity for educators to teach digital citizenship in the classroom. The workshop submission featured both teacher and student feedback of the software.  Additionally, a video demonstration of the software use from both the teacher and student point of view was included.

NoRedInk: Using Interactive Grammar Programs to Engage Learners

This presentation was delivered at the Hong Kong Teach Meet in May 2016.  It was designed to introduce NoRedInk: a smart, interactive grammar software designed to deliver differentiated grammar instruction to classes.  The workshop featured the diagnostic, formative, and summative resources available in NoRedInk.  This included: customized topics and vocabulary, instant feedback, and adaptive algorithms.

Digital Citizenship: Teaching Students to Be Safe and Ethical

This workshop was delivered at Oxstand-Bond International College in March 2016.  This was part of a technology-based initiative to educate staff about internet safety.  Topics discussed included internet safety; privacy and security; relationships and communication; digital footprints; cyberbullying and digital drama; information literacy; self-image and identity, and creative credit and copyright.  This workshop launched a technology-integration initiative.

Using Technology to Create Thematic/ Interdisciplinary Units

This workshop was delivered at Oxstand-Bond International College in October 2015.  The workshop contained a number of technology tools meant to aid teachers in creating thematic and interdisciplinary units.  It provided examples of how to cluster expectations in order to scaffold learning while teaching multiple subject curriculum expectations concurrently.

Using Technology to Engage ELLs in Your Classroom 

This workshop was delivered at both Oxstand-Bond International College in September 2015 and Delia School of Canada in November 2015.  It looked at a variety of technology tools that could be used to accommodate ELL learning in subject classrooms.  Among the subjects covered were Google Translation extensions, NoRedInk interactive smart software for grammar, ReadTheory for building reading comprehension, Piktochart for infographic creation, Lucidpress for cooperation desktop publishing, and Wix for website creation.
