Website Creation

Wix

Wix is a website design software that offers many choices of templates and fonts.  Wix also offers really good buttons which are very handy for the creator of a website.  Other things that make Wix so great are that imported pictures are automatically framed, and the wide variety of free GIFs from which to choose.  However, two common complaints from students is that it is cumbersome to upload images to Wix, and it is not a collaborative website software.  In order for students to peer edit, they need to share the individual website link with their peers.  In this respect, Google Sites was far superior as it is extremely easy to share with colleagues.

Weebly is a student favourite when it comes to website design.  It has many templates to choose from and is much easier to navigate than Google Sites. It's functionality and speed are often some of the first mentioned pros of this website design creator when speaking to students.

Google Sites is part of the Google Suite program for Education. This program was just redone a couple of years ago.  Sites can be accessed through any Google app using the hamburger button.  The program automatically saves and is extremely user-friendly.  Additionally, it is very easy to share amongst students in order to provide a collaborative working environment for students.  However,  many students complain that Google Sites is limiting as it only offers six choices of template theme.  It does not offer autocorrect for spelling as is available in other Google programs, and imported picture sizes are changed when put into the software.
