Learning the Old-Fashioned Way!

We hear a lot in education about engaging students, and today was a perfect example.  We've spent the last two days in class learning the game Diplomacy.  Students were assigned teams and countries and for an hour they made alliances, built armies and navies, and tried to conquer Europe.  What a perfect way to introduce students to the causes of World War 1 and the geographic challenges faced by different European nations when at war!  Students were engaged to the point of watching YouTube videos on strategies about how to win the game. It was a lot of fun being a teacher today!
